At a Special Board Meeting held Wednesday, March 10, 2010, the DDA Board unanimously decided to stop further activity on the pavilion due to revised construction estimates.
The pavilion concept work began in March 2009 with a committee made up of DDA Members, Chamber of Commerce, City Administration and several residents, all providing input and working with the DDA’s Architect to develop a pavilion that would serve the Farmers Market and events in the downtown. It is the DDA’s intention to place this public improvement project on hold for a period of two to three years and at that time all interested parties will be invited to participate.
Besides the pavilion project, the DDA is contracted with Mr. George Hartman, Architect on two other public improvement projects: the Commons Corner and the Civic Center Plaza. If you have questions on either of these projects or wish to get involved, please call the DDA office 734-261-2830.
Creating and maintaining an attractive appearance is important to the Downtown Development Authority. Downtown is often the first impression a visitor gets of the community and its businesses. Using captured taxes from the downtown businesses, several city-owned parking lots were resurfaced this summer with TIF funding for the $58,000. project. Additional parking lot and dumpster enclosure work is pending to complete the project estimated at $19,000. Many of the parking lots are shared by the businesses and support the parking needs of the downtown.
The decorative streetlight fixtures, installed with the streetscape in 1998, are being cleaned and painted with a gloss finish to match the recently installed mast arms at Ford and Middlebelt. Streetlights are typically painted after ten years with periodic cleaning. Tax Increment Financing “TIF” is funding the $23,000 project.
